After completing an Access course in Art and Design with Barnet College, Jan studied as a mature student at the University of Hertfordshire, graduating with a BA (Hons) Degree in Fine Art in 2007.

Until recently she held a Fellowship at Digswell Arts Trust, working from a studio at The Forge in Digswell. Currently, she is working from her home–based studio.
